Preparing for the CMBA Exam The CMBA exam tests your command of the four core curriculum areas required across all accredited MBA programs by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). These areas are:
The AACSB was not involved in the development of the CMBA nor has it reviewed the exam for endorsement. While most traditional MBA programs incorporate the core curriculum in the first year of study, students of executive, online or accelerated MBA programs may complete core curriculum classes on alternative schedules. Whatever the case, MBA students who have completed the core curriculum of their MBA program should be prepared to take the CMBA exam. The core curriculum courses that are consistent with the AACSB requirements are: Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Quantitative Analysis, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Finance, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Organizational Behavior, and Strategy. Individual requirements for preparation will vary, depending upon the nature of a candidate’s MBA program and when specific material was covered. Detailed CMBA Exam Objectives, available to accepted candidates, will give candidates specific information regarding the material covered in each of the 10 subject areas of the exam. Review of textbooks, class notes and past exams are helpful in preparing for the exam. Third party publishers are offering study guides and practice material beginning in April of 2003.
